(June 4, 2011)
Today was a lazy day. Woke up around noon :P, Emily and I ate lunch (she made a pretty yummy soup from scratch), and got ready for the day.
Around 3:00 p.m. we walked over the Rialto bridge and to San Polo. We had a "Afternoon Tea" Appointment at 5:00 and it took us quite awhile to find where the tea place was at. We finally figured out that the buildings were numbered (go figure), so we found the building it was in. We had over an hour to kill so we found another collateral event near the canal called, "Future Generation Art Prize: at Venice." There was some cool stuff in there and then some very odd work that just makes you wonder how they ever got into the exhibit. You seem some pretty extreme things here, and sometimes I think people go to far with the "minimalist," approach.
The exhibition "Afternoon Tea," was a small gallery from London that consisted of 70 artists who made works on small paper. You had to reserve a spot for tea & cakes between 3-5 p.m. We walked around the small cozy gallery and then after we were done looking at the work we went upstairs into this cute little apartment the gallery rented out and enjoyed the treats. It was so nice to just sit and absorb the work and talk with the curator. They were from London and they were so cute running around in their aprons making tea and bringing out tiers of small cupcakes. It was a really different atmosphere compared to the big crowds of biennale exhibitions. Emily and I enjoyed it a lot. After that we just walked back home and did some homework that we needed to catch up on. It was a pretty chill day :)
