Day 12

ARSENALE
(June 7, 2011)
Today we went to Arsenale (The other half of the 'main' exhibition for the Biennale).

Sadly to say I wasn't as impressed with the work in this venue as I was yesterday in Giardini. I think today we saw even more work than yesterday, but most of it wasn't as memorable.

Before we actually hit Arsenale walking over today, we went to some National pavilions that were in the area and a collateral event. We looked at Singapore, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was the best of those three by far. There was a variety of media, and some of my favorite paintings I have seen this whole trip were in that show. These are works by Mischeck Masamuv that I really liked:

We have to pick an artist or country that we will defend in front of the group. We will also have to pick an artist or country that we didn't like to talk about. I chose to defend R.H. Quaytman. I need to read more about her work and I want to go back to Giardini this weekend to look at her show again, but I feel confident in talking about her as an artist. I'm not sure who I will chose as my other, there were a lot today that I really just hated, we will see!

We were at Arsenale from maybe 10:30 until about 4:30, that is when Lilly and I left. We walked back in the rain and it was actually a fun walk. Cathi came too but she took the vaporetto home once we got to the canal. St. Mark's square was flooded and we walked through some pretty huge puddles, and my pants got soaked!

The days are blurring together a little bit-especially with all this rainy weather!
